THE SLEEP OF REASON – BICAMERAL METAMORPHOSIS

Dedicated to Jill Bolte Taylor and David Linton

I’ll be creating dream sequences (mostly demons and nightmares) for this dance and media performance. Sample video from the last time I worked with this group at Collective Unconscious:

7:00 – 8:00 PM: Live music by Zemi17 and Gamelatron, a traditional set of Indonesian gamelan
instruments augmented with robotic mechanisms, creating a robotic gamelan.

8:30 – 10:00 PM: THE SLEEP OF REASON – BICAMERAL interdisciplinary performance is a part of this summer’s Sonic Self Series of evening performance events.
The July 18th interdisciplinary performance is the third cycle in a series of SLEEP OF REASON performances. A journey through the bicameral mind and beyond, this three-act performance explores the base and the divine aspects of human consciousness and evolutionary illumination through conflict and collective impressionism.
In this cognitive audio-visual dance environment based on Goya’s print The Sleep of Reason, with the
inscription: “El sueno de la razon produce monstruos” (the sleep of reason brings forth monsters), individuals are confronted by demons while they sleep. This initial scene becomes the first step of the individual’s eyes being opened to truth and wisdom through the unifying of the polarized mind.
